Wenchuan–Maerkang Expressway, Sichuan Province

Project Background:

The Wenchuan–Maerkang Expressway is a highway in Sichuan Province that connects Wenchuan County and Maerkang. It forms a section of the G4217 Chengdu–Changdu Expressway. Starting from Fengpingba, south of Wenchuan County, it connects with the Dujiangyan–Wenchuan Expressway, passes through Lixian and Miyaluo, then continues via Jintouzhai, crosses Zhegu Mountain, and runs downstream along the Suomo River, ending at Zhuokeji in Maerkang. The total length of the expressway is 172 km, with bridges and tunnels accounting for 86% of the route. The project includes 10 interchanges, 4 service areas, and 3 parking zones.

As the second expressway in the Tibetan region of Sichuan, the Wenchuan–Maerkang Expressway serves as a vital outbound corridor connecting Sichuan to the Northwest. It acts as a strategic and economic corridor from inland China to the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, and it plays a key role in integrating Sichuan into China’s national "Belt and Road" initiative. It is also an important component of the G4217 Chengdu–Changdu Expressway, linking the endpoints of G0611 (Zhangye–Wenchuan) and G0615 (Delingha–Maerkang).

Our Contribution:

Midas Electric supplied the MDS9MVC series medium-voltage Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) for the Wenchuan–Maerkang Expressway project. Independently developed by Midas Electric, the MDS9MVC series ATS features an integrated controller and utilizes medium-voltage vacuum circuit breakers to switch between utility and backup power sources. It also supports medium-voltage load transfer functions. The MDS9MVC ensures smooth switching between two power sources, minimizing power outage time along the expressway.
