Qasim Coal-fired Power Plant

Project Background:

The Qasim Coal-fired Power Plant is a power cooperation project initiated following Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Pakistan in May 2013, during which the strategic vision for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was proposed. As a major thermal power base in southern Pakistan, the Qasim plant supplies approximately 9.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. It was jointly developed and invested by PowerChina and the Qatari royal family and was commissioned for operation in 2017.
